Get Out & Play!!
Practice is great, getting a junior out and playing is even better. There are some great opportunities I encourage all junior golfers to take advantage of.
The first, is a season pass at King Ranch or the University Golf Course. A season pass allows juniors to go play outside of league and tournament times. Both facilities are offering a season passes for Juniors for $175!!
The second, is a Youth on Course (YOC) Membership through the Montana State Golf Association. YOC allows juniors to pay just $5 green fees when they go play. Local Missoula Valley Courses include, University Golf Course, King Ranch & Canyon River, each course does have times when this great value can be redeemed so please call ahead. Visit the Montana State Golf Association to learn more.
When you go play, I always recommend playing from an appropriate yardage. For juniors who are just starting, it maybe only from 100 yards and from the fairway. We are looking for success, PARS & BIRDIES!! King Ranch offers junior tee marks permanently in the fairway. These are set at a great yardage for any beginner to learn the game. As a player begins to hit the driver farther in the air, they can them move back to another set of tees.
Finally, WALK! Walking is an important part of golf and a great form of exercise. It is best for juniors to get used to walking early on. A push cart to carry their clubs, an umbrella to keep the sun off and a water bottle are key tools for juniors to enjoy their round of golf.
Spring is coming and I look to see you on the course soon!!
